Bluetooth-based Ad Hoc Network Formation Protocols

Xuming Fang · Telecommunication Engineering · 2003

The protocols of Bluetooth-based Ad Hoc network formation, i.e., the problem of self-organized Bluetooth devices constituting multi-hop Ad Hoc networks is discussed. Firstly, two basic models of inter-piconet communication in Bluetooth-based Ad Hoc network are introduced, and then, previous research on Bluetooth-based Ad Hoc network formation protocols is outlined. Furthermore, four representative protocols, i.e., BTCP, Bluetrees, BlueStars and Scatternet-Route, are described in detail and compared simply. Finally some issues in existing protocols are pointed out and some possible research directions with these problems are presented.
