Architecture and performance analysis of single frequency cellular network based on orthogonal frequency division multiplexing

Shiju Li · Journal of Zhejiang University(Engineering Science) · 2005

A novel structure of single frequency cellular network (SFCN) was proposed to improve the performance of traditional GSM (global system for mobile communication) by applying the technique of OFDM-based single frequency network to GSM. In the downlink, adjacent three base stations worked as a macro-diversity to form a single frequency cell and broadcast downlink data to mobile stations. In the uplink, selective diversity was used to select the base station in the best receiving condition to receive uplink data. Simulation results showed that in the proposed system, handoff requests in the process of mobility were decreased, that both call blocking probability and call dropping probability were reduced, while system capacity was increased.
