Application of Geographic Information System in Hydrology and Water Resources

GIS is an important application system for management and research of hydrological spatial data,and has made the important contribution to the research and development in the field of hydrology and water resources.The application of GIS in five aspects is summarized including hydrology information forecast and flood control and disaster mitigation,hydrological resources space management and decision support system research,water environment management,water pollution control planning,the information management system of water supply network.The application of GIS in hydrology and water resources is prospected from four aspects of the strengthening research of GIS application norms and standards,establishing geographical spatial database of hydrology and water resources,building spatial decision support system of hydrology and water resources,promoting the fusion of GIS and professional models of hydrology and water resources.
