Digital AGC input-matching circuit for soft-decision LDPC Decoders

The performance of Soft-decision LDPC decoders will be significantly degraded due to variation of signal level of input data. To avoid the degradation,a digital AGC as the input-matching circuit for the LDPC decoder is proposed in this paper to track the variation of the signal level and amplify the input data correspondingly. A low-complexity architecture,suitable for high-speed applications in particular,is also presented and analyzed. The FPGA implementation of the AGC in a high-speed UWB communication system shows significant performance improvement with very low hardware cost,thus the proposed AGC input-matching circuit is considered to be useful for applications with LDPC or other soft-decision CODEC
