Improved EDCF protocol and simulation based on muti-hop character of wireless Ad-Hoc network

Traditional EDCF protocol of MAC layer is broadly used in wireless Ad-hoc network.But the BEB back-off algorithm of EDCF didn't consider the multi-hop character of Ad-Hoc,it distribute the back-off windows with the same method for all the packet,with the result that the more rest hops the packet have the more delay increased greatly.In this paper,BEB algorithm was improved;with the method that a small back-off window was distributed for the packet which rest hops was big.Then,its competitiveness of channel access was enhanced with this method.We make a model of the new algorithm with OPNET software,and the result of our simulations show that,compared with EDCF,the improved mechanism can reduces the end-to-end delay of multimedia traffic effectively.
