A thin-core array architecture for graphics and image processing
Lingzhi Xiao · 2012
A novel thin-core array architecture for graphics and image processing is proposed in this paper.A processing element(PE) in this machine is able to execute in both SIMD and MIMD modes. The PE has mechanisms for asynchronous inter-thread communication and efficient execution.A PE also contains a hardware thread manager to realize one-step context switching. This architecture is highly efficient in realizing thread-parallel computation,data-parallel computation and operation parallel computation. In particular, the performance of this architecture is comparable with ASIC when used for stream processing. This architecture is capable of implementing high-performance,classical static and dynamic dataflow computation.
