Impact of Routing Property on Capacity of IEEE 802.11 DCF Multi-hop Wireless Network

Wenzhu Zhang · Modern Electronics Technique · 2009

The impact of routing schemes and nodal transmission radius on capacity of IEEE 802.11 DCF Ad Hoc networks is studied with an analytical model in this paper. In a multi-hop network with randomly distributed terminals, and with four routing schemes, try to find the combination to maximize the network capacity. It is shown that, with a given nodal distribution density, the expected progress of packets sent by a node decreases monotonously as the transmission radius increase. This implies shorter transmission radius has an tendency to improve the network capacity. Moreover, with given nodal transmission radii,long-hop routing schemes outperform short-hop routing schemes.
