The image encoding method, which is combined wavelet with fractal, uses the wavelet transform to realize the multiresolution of the image, and then uses the fractal theory to encode the image in the wavelet field. In this paper, we present a new fractal encoding method that encodes image range blocks based on fixed location domain blocks. The advantage of this method is that the fractal code does not contain coordinates of the domain-range matched pairs. Therefore, the size of the range block can be as small as 2 x 2 pixels ,the image still maintain a good compression rate and image quality. The simulation results proved valid of the present method.
