Methods for academic journal editors to evaluate the innovativeness of a manuscript in internal review process

Evaluation of the innovativeness of a manuscript is an important and also the most difficult part of internal review by an academic journal editor to find out whether the manuscript is worth going into peer-review process.This paper describes the methods to detect innovative work using the information provided in different parts of a manuscript including the front part,main text,and reference list.These methods are derived from the internal review practice by editors of Chongqing University journals,which have been proven to be very effective.
