Theoretical analysis of the contrast of image under water

The theoretical formula of the contrast of image under water was given.Moreover, a method for improving the contrast of image under water was brought forward. Some experiments of using symmetrical double light sources had been conducted, which show that the contrast of image unter water had been improved more than twice of that using single light source. Theoretical results were conformed to that of the experiments. The theoretical and experimental surveys reported here show that the symmetrical lighting system is an efficient method to improving the contrast of image.
