Evaluation of Processor Power in High Performance Computing
Juan Chen · Computer Engineering and Science · 2009
High performance computing (HPC) system has its special architecture and applications, and grasping the characteristics of power consumption is the basis to improve energy efficiency. The paper classifies the power management techniques into two types: dynamic resource sleep and dynamic speed scaling, evaluates the two mechanisms in processors, and demonstrates their significant potentials in HPC. The analysis of the energy consumption characteristics and the weaknesses of the current solutions is directive to future energy optimization.
