Selecting Speaker Components for Home Audio Loudspeakers:An Overview

The loudspeaker designer must consider many factors when selecting the proper parts for their new product design. This paper discusses practical methods for selecting speaker components(woofers, midranges, tweeters) during the design of home audio loudspeakers of various budgets. Topics include: reading specification sheets, measuring sample parts, conducting listening tests. The relationship between component cost and sound performance is considered, as well as long-term QC, reliability and consistency issues. Recommendations are made for areas of potential cost savings, compared to areas demanding audiophile performance.
