Readout system based on multipleprocessors in a VME crate

Tao Ning · Journal of Tsinghua University(Science and Technology) · 2005

A Beijing Spectrome Ⅲ(BESⅢ) data acquisition readout branch based on multiple processors in one VME crate was built to improve the performance and scalability of real-time systems. An interrupt mechanism was developed to handle the inter-task communications and the synchronization of the multiple processors. The event data sequence was correct in a test with a PowerPC reading data from the electronics front end and transferring it to a readout PC.The CPU occupancy is reduced compared with single processor systems. The real-time performance satisfies the technical requirements with a scalable system platform planned for the future.
