Corona Discharge Monitoring System for Polluted Insulators Based on UV Pulses

Xu Yu · Gao dianya jishu · 2009

To prevent the contamination flashover, the electricity regulatory commission in China formulates a scheme to all the insulators. However, the scheme spends plenty of money on insulator washing and cleaning. Performing the real-time monitor of insulator is an urgent task to solve the safety of transmission lines. We introduced the principle of detecting polluted insulators states using ultra-violet(UV) ray emitted during insulators discharging, and developed a kind of on-line monitoring setup for polluted insulators , which applied the communication platform of SMS to form four-to-one star network so as to realize the remote supervisory and controlling system. The setup was used by Bishan Power Supply Bureau. The experimental data show that ,when the UV pulses reach 4000, the polluted insulators need to be cleaned, and the setup is proved to have the advantages of low price, high sensitivity, quick response speed etc.
