Ontology-based approach to heterogeneous database integration

The numbers of database that are available today continue to grow.Any attempts to query these database run into the problem that user's terminology does not match the database terminology.An ontology-based approach to heterogeneous database integration is presented,by using a global dictionary,which creates local database ontology respectively.With global mediator and local agent,users are allowed to use their own terms(imprecise queries) when accessing database rather than being forced to use system-specified terms.The model of the ontology and query algorithm is given.A prototype to test the feasibility of our approach has been developed and its implementation is briefly overviewed.
