A real-time and TCP-friendly global rate control mechanism for MPEG-4 video network transporting

Wei Xin-zhu · Journal of Circuits and Systems · 2005

Building upon the TFRC rate control scheme, an improved algorithm is proposed for estimating the bandwidth prediction model parameters. Making use of RTP and RTCP, this algorithm allows to better take into account the multimedia flows characteristics (variable packet size, real-time, smooth rate … ). Furthermore, a global rate control model is built on the general analysis of available bandwidth prediction, delay jitter and package loss rate etc. This model coupled with adaptive MPEG-4 FGS transform mechanism wich embodies the graded preference priorities, effectively satisfies the service requirement of smooth transporting rate as well as that of real-time and TCP-Friendly. Finally, simulation results are illustrated to verify our model.
