Study on a new type of lightning protection hardware against lightning-caused breakage of 10 kV overhead insulation-covered conductors

With reference to the devices against lightning-caused breakages of overhead insulation-covered conductors at home and abroad,a new type of lightning protection hardware against lightning-caused breakage of 10 kV overhead insulation-covered conductor was developed.High current heat stabilization test,lightning attack high voltage test and main frequency arc burning test were performed which concerned three technical characteristics of lighting protection hardware.The results indicated that this new lightning protection hardware met all the requirements of the tests.This hardware can position the path of lightning-flashover and make the root of power frequency-arc departed from insulation-covered conductors,therefore prevent the conductor breakage caused by lightning.It needs no maintenance,no tower grounding requirement,and is particularly suited to the towers which can not be connected to ground in urban area.
