Research on Presence and Instant Messaging Technology Based on SIP

With the rapid development of Internet and as IM S matures gradually,the research and application of Presence and Instant M essaging based on SIP are increasing. The demand for Presence / IM brings about a series of challenging problems,and developing the specifications of the Presence and Instant M essaging is of great importance. IETF provides many specifications supporting SIPbased Presence / IM,and these specifications are called SIM PLE. This paper analyzes the specifications related to SIM PLE,summarizes and categorizes the functions which SIM PLE provides in combination with SIP event framework and IM PP and specifies the relationship among the specifications. At last,the paper discusses the research direction and development trend of Presence and Instant M essaging.
