Contour-parallel tool-path linking method without tool-retraction for complex-pocket

Lun Li · Computer Integrated Manufacturing Systems · 2010

To overcome the shortcomings of conventional tool-path linking method,a simple and effective contour-parallel tool-path linking method was proposed. In this method, the Tool-Path Loops (TPLs) were organized as a data structure called Tool-path Region Tree(TRT),each TRT node was corresponding to one offset operation result. In order to group TPLs,the tree was spitted into Tool-Path Clusters(TPCs)according to nest relationships among TPLs. Then TPCs were linked by linking corresponding points and virtual corresponding points,sub-paths were generated; Furthermore,sub-paths were merged to enable tool-path with no retraction. In addition,TRT with no extra computing was used to improve the efficiency of conventional non-retraction tool-path linking method in dealing with large-scale problems.
