Router Based Fast Congestion Notification Algorithm and its Performance Analysis
Jing Chen · Mini-micro Systems · 2004
The end to end congestion control mechanisms of TCP have been a critical factor in the robustness of todays Internet. However, the end hosts respond slowly to congestion, while the routers provide no support in notifying and controlling congestion. This paper proposes a router based congestion control algorithm FECN, in which routers provide explicit detection and notification mechanisms, so that the end could respond to congestion rapidly. It could also improve the adaptabilities of connections to network variation by adjusting the maximum drop probability. The simulation results show that it reduces the transmission delay than ECN algorithm, and works well under most circumstances.
