A novel ISI cancellation scheme using Viterbi equalization algorithm in low processing gain CDMA systems

A joint receiving scheme of Rake combining and soft-output Viterbi equalization for low processing gain CDMA systems is proposed in this paper. The corresponding receiver structure is also described. Soft-output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA) is applied to symbol sequences after Rake combining to effectively eliminate the multi-path interference (MPI) and inter-symbol interference (ISI) during transmission of high rate data in cellular CDMA systems. So the performance of CDMA receiver is greatly improved.
