SYNTHESIS AND CHARACTERIZATION OF STAR-POLYACRYLAMIDE FOR FLOCCULATING AGENTS

Acrylamide polymerization was conducted using Ce~(4+) and multi-hydroxyl reducer(such as 1,2,3-propanetriol, pentaerythritol and sucrose) as initiator systems. Polyacrylamide synthesized were characterized by ()~1H-NMR and SEC, and star-structure was displayed. Meanwhiles two methods were proposed to estimate the average arm number of SPAM according to the results of ()~1H-NMR and SEC. The effects of reducer type, dosage and component of initiator and concentration of monomer on polymerization were investigated.
