Cross-layer energy efficient MAC protocol for wireless sensor networks

Cross layer mechanisms with MAC and routing integrated is an important solution for Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN)protocols.This paper studies AIMRP in-depth and proposes an enhanced AIMRP protocol E-AIMRP.Designing for the event detect applications,it integrates MAC and routing with cross layer mechanisms,furthermore it solves the problems in AIMRP of low energy efficient resulting from the multi-node event detecting and reports,and introduction of a new efficient energy saving model,makes the average power consumption remains constant independent of event or node increasing.The simulation results show that E-AIMRP outperforms AIMRP for energy efficiency and time delay in the event-detection applications.
