Experimental Study on Dynamic Simulation of Cooling Water Fouling Resistance Prediction by Support Vector Machine

Zhiming Xu · Proceedings of the CSEE · 2010

A new method of dynamic analog test of cooling water fouling resistance for shell-tube heat exchanger was presented. The test conditions are as follows:the tube material and process are identical, the water temperature and flow rate both are constant.Under these conditions the main water quality factors how to affect the fouling properties were studied emphatically.According to the magnitude of the effect of total hardness, alkalinity,pH,dissolved oxygen, turbidity Fe3+and on the fouling resistance, this paper selected these water quality factors and time as the input variable, took the fouling resistance as the output variable, found a prediction model of cooling water fouling resistance based on support vector machine(SVM).And another running period experimental data was used to verify prediction model accuracy. The average error of this prediction model is 8.874% involved experimental system uncertainty.Comparing it with the fouling factors recommended by Tubular Heat Exchanger Manufactures Association(TEMA),this prediction data contains more rich contents. It includes the thermal resistance variation in time besides its asymptotic value;its reliability enhances, fidelity is even higher than TEMA data and operability is more convenient.
