The Research for Soft-switching and Its' Application in Communication Network

The technology based on IP has changed the structure and the conception of a communication network, so the operations of the traditional communication will depend on IP network instead of circuit-switching at last. It is a challenge for the development of the communication network of next generation to complete such a network based on IP and internet, with its' function of carrying, signaling and management on a same infrastructure. In this article, the four layers' structure of NGN and their corresponding functions is introduced, the conception of Soft-Switching and its' important functions on the unification of the new and the old networks was expatiated. At last, the position of the soft-switching in NGN is analyzed, and certain advices and policy on how to make use of Soft-switching are put forward.
