JSR-14: The Implementation of Generic Java

Jun Liu · Jisuanji fangzhen · 2005

This article is all about JSR-14, the implementation of Generic Java, which will be added to Java Language Specification in the near future. Firstly the article gives a description of the syntax of generics in Java, including generic class, generic method and bounded type parameter. Secondly it reveals the mechanism of JSR-14, called Erasure, which translates source code to bytecode compatible to the original specification. Lastly it discusses both the advantages and the limitations of JSR-14,putting emphasis on the limitations and pointing out Erasure is the source of these limitations. Then it analyses the relationship between these limitations and Erasure.
