The Form and Function of the Construction “Yi M Bi Yi M + VP”

The constructionyi M M + VPhas two types( i. e. real comparison and chameleon comparison) and four sub-types. Its formal features include the generalization of M and solidification of yi M M. Syntactically,while Yi Mhas deictic or substitutional function,and bi can almost serve as a conjunction,the whole construction yi M M + VPhas the phenomenon of syntactic variation and decay. Semantically,there are three features for yi M Mand five types for VP,and the whole construction has two constructional meanings generated by different factors. Its pragmatic features are mainly represented by subjectivity and implication. The form and function of the construction reflects the properties of a typical grammatical construction.
