In order to implement DSP-based iris recognition system, user's application program needs to be burned into the non volatile memory. In this paper we study the mechanism of burning an external flash memory for a DSP system. We propose an approach that uses non-volatile memory to operate modulized program to burn flash memory. In particular,we focus on the key of DSP external flash memory burning and the means of determining the burning object, source address and destination address. We also study the process of accessing the DSP external flash memory via modulized program in a simulated environment. In this way,we succeed to finish the flash burning out of the DSP board in the iris recognition system.
