Fast Restoration Method for Disk-based Network Backup System

This paper considers disk as the storage media instead of tape for network backup system and studies how to restore data efficiently via snapshot, incremental transferring and fast hitting target data etc based on disk-based backup solution. It presents a working system called “A-Backup System” that offers new benefits such as efficient data restoration and incremental backup, querying data backed up, no administrator’s care as well for disk-based network backup systems, benefits not possible before with tape-based backup systems.
