The oilfield is co-exploited by China and the United States, and designed in light of API RP2A code constituted by the American Petroleum Institute, which is different from GB 17503-1998 to some degree.Based on the seismotectonic and seismicity environment in Bohai Sea and its adjacent regions, and the drilling data and soil dynamical test of the engineering site, the seismic design parameters with different exceeding probabilities are determined according to the rules in US and Chinese related codes. The soil character on the site and its effects on seismic parameters are discussed in detail and then the differences between the parameters required in US and Chinese seismic codes are analyzed and the rationalities of different resistant levels are discussed. The results have been used in the design of the platform.
