Object-Oriented Spatio-Temporal Data Model Based on OGC Simple Features Specification

Jiang Xue-zhong, Sk S · Geomatics world (Lemmer) · 2006

Aiming at the problems that exist in the study of spatial-temporal data model(STDM)and temporal geographic information system(TGIS), a general object-oriented spatio-temporal data model (GOO-STDM) is proposed. On the basis of the essential attributes and behavior of spatial-temporal geo-objects, the model makes use of object-oriented approach to encapsulate a geo-object as a whole of space, theme and time, which encompasses semantics of what/where/when, and presents better extensible to different applications. Based on the Simple Features Specification(SFS)from Open Geospatial Consortium(OGC)and upon an object-relational database a GOO-STDM has been developed, which includes spatio-temporal class structure, spatio-temporal topological function, storage solution and their via-mid-ware implementation schemes. The proposed GOO-STDM has considerable practicability and generality and brings new thoughts to the development of STDMs.
