Application of wavelet and fractal theory to vibration diagnosis of vehicle diesel engine

The multi-resolution decomposition theory can display the engine vibration signal at different scales, which leads to the realization of signal processing based on the frequency band. The proper wavelet function is used to analyze the signal according to the combustion impulsion characteristic. The engine abnormal operating state is identified by calculating the fractal dimension of the time series at a given scale in conjunction with the signal’s frequency spectrum. The experiment result shows the fractal dimension of the given frequency band is more sensitive to the engine running condition.
