This article presents a modeling method based on common I/O paths to describe current storage architectures.Queuing network models are presented for server storage systems and Data Centers.Data Centers use an IP-based storage system in which storage devices can be accessed directly by hosts without passing through a server.Simulations and experimental results show that Data Centers provide much higher performance than server storage systems. The I/O path based performance models are also shown to be effective for analyzing and evaluating different storage systems.
