A CDP System Based on Mechanisms of Selective Initial Backup and Reverse Recovery

Li-Man HOU · Science Technology and Engineering · 2010

A selective initial backup mechanism is firstly proposed, which solves the problem that the existing CDP systems consume too much storage space because they back up unused sectors of the destination volume when making the initial backup. Also,a reverse recovery mechanism is presented, which reversely restores the destination volume from the current moment to the designated recovery time point, instead of redoing the log from the initial backup to the recovery time point as existing CDP systems do when recovering data.Reverse recovery can provide shorter recovery time and higher efficiency.
