Glycerin monobehenate was synthesized by reacting behenic acid with isopropylidene glycerin that was prepared by condensation of acetone with glycerin using the group protection method. The effect of catalyst, dehydrating agent and reaction conditions on the content and yield of glycerin monobehenate was studied. The results showed that when p-toluene sulfonic acid was used as the catalyst, and petroleum ether-Ⅱwas used as the dehydrating agent at a molar ratio of glycerol∶acetone∶behenic acid=1.00∶2.00∶0.75,the product yield was 90.58% with the glycerin monobehenate content reaching 92.32%.The structure of the product was confirmed by melting point measurements,IR and HNMR spectrometry.
