Objective To investigate the effects of local administration of simvastatin and atorvastatin solution on the tooth movement and periodontal ligament. Methods Forty eight male SD rats were selected and randomly divided into simvastatin group(group A),atorvastatin group(group B),the negative control group(group C) and the basic control group(group D),orthodontic tooth movement model was established, the appliances were removed after 21 days,in group A and group B in the upper right first molar buccal mucoperiosteal 0.1ml of drugs was injected,in group C the isotonic saline was received instead,in group D no drug was injected, the recurrence of maxillary first molar distance was observed at the 3rd,7th,14th day respectively. Results Among these groups there was no significant difference at the 3rd day(P 0.05).The distance between that in the two experimental groups relapsed significantly smaller than the two control groups at the 7th day(P 0.05),however,group A and group B showed no significand difference(P 0.05).For the two experimental groups relapsed, compared with the two control groups there were significand difference at the 14th day(P 0.05),the group B relapsed significantly less than the distance in group A(P 0.01).Conclusion Local injection of statin drugs can effectively inhibit the recurrence of tooth, and with time extending the role of atorvastatin is superior to simvastatin.
