Metadata management mechanism based on route directory

The performance and scalability of metadata access significantly affects the entire storage system.This paper presents a metadata management mechanism based on the concept of route directory,which is the basic unit for locating a metadata server,evaluating its workload and migrating the metadata.This mechanism achieves high performance by utilizing the locality of metadata access.The mechanism also achieves a balanced workload among the metadata servers through a well defined,low cost workload evaluation method which reflects the impact of each operation in the access series.Simulations show that this mechanism evenly redistributes the workload among the metadata servers.
