The appearance of WLAN fully solves a serious of problems bought by the congenital defects of the wire network.Compared with the wire network,WLAN is equiped with many specified advantages. As the supplement and extension of the wire local area network,WLAN makes the computers movable. It can fast and conveniently solve the problem of network connection which is not easy for the wire network to realize,so it becomes the dominant direction of the network development in the future. The standard of IEEE 802.11 is the wireless local area network standard worked out by IEEE.The products of various manufacturers can be operated together on the same physical layer. Thus,it makes the two main functions of the wireless local area network, connection of multiple points and internetworking of multiple net segments, easier to be realized with low costs.Thereby, the road for the further popularization of the wireless local area network is got through. This article briefly introduces the features of several standards in common use.
