This paper analyzes the main problems of TCP transmission in satellite link, elaborates the design of simulation environment, builds the simulation models and draws some conclusions. Satellite link is characterized by large delay, high error rate. The simulation results demonstrated the impact of these features on TCP transmission. Finally, because satellite channels and terrestrial cable channel have different characteristics,so when the TCP protocol is used in a satellite link directly, then its throughput performance will be affected. For the satellite link characteristics, this paper analyzes the main problem of TCP transmission in the satellite link, builds the simulation models using the simulation software of NS2 and draws some conclusions for the given environment. For satellite link with large delay, high error rate, the simulation results show that for a certain size of data, when the bit error rate is high, the system throughput is low and the packet loss rate is high; and when the delay (round-trip time) becomes longer, the throughput of the system becomes lower. Finally, this paper analyzes and compares the main solutions for TCP transmission problems in the satellite link such as the optimization of TCP operating parameters, the modification of the TCP control mechanism, partition of connection technology, etc.
