Detection and Localization of Bar Code in Complicated Background

Bar code detection and localization technology is an i mp ortant step in a bar code recognition system. Before its recognition, the bar co de needs to be located by filtering text and other signs on the image. This pape r presents an approach for detection and localization of the bar code. Firstly, the subregions that contain the bar code are found out by multiple features anal ysis. Then after subregions clustering and candidacy test, the bar code is found out. Finally the edge of bar code is located on the image according to Hough t ransform and the barcode is rotated to be horizontal based on bi-linear interpo lation.Experiments show that the algorithm has a good performance and is superio r to the algorithm based on the gradient feature.
