Study and Implementation of Prepaid GSM Service

Spg Switching · World Telecommunications · 1999

The prepaid GSM service in Europe is described in terms of roll-out and applications as well as functional requirements, service categories and attributes. The prepaid service can be implemented with either an addition of the Prepaid Service Handling Center in the GSM network or the IN technology. The first scheme has little impact on the existing networks and is simple to deploy, but it hinders the service applications and development due to its lack of complete control of user accounts, singleness of functionality, and the adoption of non-standard protocols. The second scheme, despite its great impact on the existing networks, provides additional services and multi-vendor operating environments, using standard protocols.
