Methods and measures of refreshing editorial board members for English-edition scientific journals in China: a case study of Journal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering

[Purpose] In order to maintain the adequate structure,high operation efficiency,and well-recognized function of editorial board( EB),we take the ‘Journal of Rock Mechanics and G eotechnical Engineering'( JRMG E) as research background,try to analyze the implementation of the second EB of JRMG E,including the basic principles,methods,and measures in association with detailed processes. [Methodology] The second EB of JRMG E is constructed with inclusion of part members of the previous EB,where their contributions made to the journal are considered. In addition,the ratio of oversea members and high-efficient operation EB team should be maintained. [Findings] We followthe instruction of ‘Reasonably reduce the EB number and remain those in terms of high contributions'. In this regard,the continuity and the integrity of EB can be maintained for the editorial team with respect to authority and stability. Moreover,we invite high-activity young experts in this field across the world,and keep a limited number of older academics and / or older experts. The EB should also cover a wide range of professional and representative areas. Of course,full consideration should be given to the balanced parties in consideration of their development,while preparing for a reasonable scheme. [Conclusions]The results showthat after the refreshment of the second EB for JRMGE,we not only keep the continuity of the EB members,but also motivate their vitality in terms of academic activities. It is rather acceptable,which can lay a good foundation for the further development of JRMGE,and also for similar academic journals.
