Discuss on Waxy Maize Breeding and Thought of Development in Guangxi Province from Regional Trial

Variety quantity,origin,quality,fresh ear yield,and resistance to disease of authorized varieties in Guangxi Waxy Maize Regional Trial( GWMRT) from 2006 to 2012 were analyzed. The results showed that the quality of all the authorized varieties didnot reach rank one in grade criterion. Waxy quality and pericarp thickness didnot improve much. The fresh ear yield of most authorized varieties ranged from 10505 to 12 000 kg /hm2. The yield reached 12 000 kg /hm2only once in 2012. According to the consumption market and breeding level of waxy maize in Guangxi,the prime objective of breeding work was to improve fresh ear yield and grain color of waxy maize. So we should collect and create new germplasm resources and improve breeding methods to meet the requirements of the market.
