This experiment is based on the method of minimal change way to measure the difference threshold by the speed of the music. The materials are in the use of the two kinds of the standard music, speed of =80 and =120(choir Amazing Grace and Beethoven's Minuet in G,all in Midi files),by using Finale Notepad 2008 to edit and the Windows Media Player 11 to play. The compared materials are 10 pieces of the different speed but the same tune to each piece of the standard materials, descending or ascending 2 beats for Amazing Grace, while 4 beats for Minuet in G.The experiment is done by using 30 undergraduates from Beijing Normal University to judge if there is difference between the compared and standard music, each time presents 2 pieces. The result demonstrates that when =80,the differential threshold is 2.5;while =120,the value goes to 5,which shows a significant difference between the two speeds. It also illustrates that, the speed increases, the difference threshold increases as well. The Fechner-Weber's law is tested to some extent but not precisely, needing a further study to justify the theory. On the other hand,it has something to do with our daily life,as well as music listening, comprehension and music teaching.
