Medium Access Control(MAC)Protocol has been at the core of effective communication in the wireless sensor networks. The Superframe Structure and Guaranteed Time Slot(GTS)mechanism of MAC protocol of IEEE 802.15.4 are analyzed in the Low-Rate Wireless personal Area Networks(LR-WPAN)with OPNET simulation platform.A small star-shaped network is build that can more clearly reflect the network's average energy consumption in the simulation experiment. The results show that GTS mechanism can save the battery energy effectively through the different simulation scenarios and provide an important rule for design of wireless sensor networks.
