HMRB: Application Layer Multicast Protocol Based on Hierarchical Multi-Rings

Fuyan Zhang · Microelectronics & Computer · 2007

The paper presents HMRB (Hierarchical Multi-Rings Based) protocol, a new scalable application-layer multicast protocol that establishes hierarchical multi-rings as control topology among group members. A new area-partition mechanism is proposed in this paper. Data transmission topology (tree is used in the paper) can be easily implemented on top of the ring. The paper provides simulations of both HMRB and a hierarchical ALM protocol NICE, using p2psim network simulator. Results demonstrate that HMRB has higher bandwidth usage, shorter average path length and lower link stress in proportion with NICE.
