An Improved Region Growing Algorithm Used in Medical Image Segmentation

An algorithm of eliminating headstocks and head-rests in CT images is introduced.After analyzing the characteristic of(brain′s) CT images,region growing algorithm is improved by introducing threshold segmentation and edge detection.With the algorithm,headstocks and head-rests in CT images are eliminated. The experiment shows that this method can overcome the shortcoming which is in traditional region growing and segment brain′s CT images automatically,rapidly and effectively.
