Development and Inspiration of U. S. Electronic Chart Display and Information System-Navy

This paper introduces the development of U. S Electronic Chart Display and Information System-Navy( ECDIS-N). Based on the introduction and analysis of backgrounds and process of transition to ECDIS-N, ECDIS-N standard as well as the development of VMS which is certificated as the standard ECDIS-N system, inspirations which enhance Chinese transition from paper chart to electronic chart are discussed from aspects of overall coordination and planning,construction of chart data,equipment developing as well as supporting and maintenance.
