Adaptive Transmission System for MPEG-4 FGS Streaming Media

An adaptive transmission system for MPEG-4 FGS streaming media is presented, in which three quality smoothing schemes guaranteestable quality of continuous group of pictures (GOPs) and successive frames in a GOP in the unstable and lossy Internet. The smoothing schemes areGOP quality smoothing scheme, frame quality smoothing scheme and FEC error control scheme. Simulation results show that, the proposed systemcan adaptively adjust bandwidth of every frame and smooth the quality of continuous GOPs and successive frames in a GOP even under a lossynetwork environment.
