hydrolysis of acetic anhydride is investigated at B3LYP/6-31G(d) theoretical level.Among several possible reaction mechanisms,the favorable is a concerted mechanism in which the water molecular attack one carbonyl of acetic anhydride and the hydrogen in water will transfer to other carbonyl of acetic anhydride simultaneously.Finally,a bimolecular complex of acetic acid will be generated in gas-phase,and in water solution separated acetic acid will be generated.
